Homeland FAQ
Homeland is a fantasy RPG written for Win95/98/NT.
Homeland crashes at the beginning... what can I do?
The first thing to try it being sure that you have DirectX installed
and up-to-date versions of your drivers.
The second thing to try is running Homeland in WINDOWS mode rather than
EXCLUSIVE mode. It is possible that Windows is trying to report some
kind of error, but you cannot see the message box because you are in
exclusive mode. To switch to WINDOWS mode, you have to change the
registry entry for Homeland, and change your screen resolution to 16-bit
color.
To change the registry entry:
1) Click on "Start" on the TaskBar and then "Run".
2) Type "regedit" and hit "OK".
3) Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dragonlore\Homeland"
4) Change the Windows key to 1
5) (You also might change the Midi and sound keys to 0 as a test of the sound)
To change the screen resolution to 16-bit:
1) Right-click on the background of your screen.
2) Go to "Properties" and then the "Settings" tab.
3) Change the "color" entry to 16-bit and hit "OK".

"Well, I believe it once was the castle of some duke or count who lived here. But that was a long time ago. Since we no longer have such a ruler we no longer have need of a castle. Some people say it's haunted, but I think that's just old women's talk. There's no such thing as ghosts. But there's nothing much to see there, just crumbled walls. Not really interesting." - Gharry describing the Ruins of Mandelin
